This bride-to-be is getting in wedding dress shape by shrinking her almost 50-inch-wide legs that won’t stop growing.
Katia Page, a 36-year-old woman from New Jersey, was diagnosed with lipedema in 2014, a syndrome where legs swell because of fat deposits. The condition affects up to 11 percent of women according to the National Institutes of Health.
She’ll be appearing on “My Legs Won’t Stop Growing” Monday on TLC.
Page has been going through a series of liposuction sessions to keep her stems from enlarging. Before the surgeries, her legs were up to four feet wide, but the procedures seem to be helping.
“The swelling was at one point so bad that my ankles would be literally hanging all the way over my foot,”
Page told Barcroft. “My biggest fear is becoming immobile because once I can’t move, I know this disease will progress and I could lose my life.”
Page has also faced criticism about her appearance from strangers. She says that people assume she’s large because of an unhealthy diet rather than a painful medical condition. But that hasn’t stopped her from walking down the aisle.
“I’m smart, I’m educated, I can cook and I’m a good catch! You’d be a fool not to want me,” she says. “I’m engaged, and we’re going to get married soon. And to be honest with you, he loves me anyway, but I just want to look my best.”
