Can Colloidal Silver Combat Dangerous Organisms?

Can Colloidal Silver Combat Dangerous Organisms?

The debate over the health effects of colloidal silver is ongoing and while some in the medical system don’t ascribe to the theory, more and more naturopathic practices support the benefits of this once risky health supplement.

For those that are completely in the dark, colloidal silver is a mixture or tincture containing microscopic silver particles which supporters claim carry a positive charge and make them effective against harmful organisms.

The controversy is obvious: metals should not be ingested outside of natural food and water sources.

And yet the use of silver in a pure solution for medical purposes has been in practice for hundreds of years and was the leading remedy in fighting infections before the discovery of antibiotics.

According to supporters of this supplement, when produced with high voltage technology, colloidal silver is a safe and bioavailable alternative to other toxic drugs used in common medical practice.

Their argument follows that only low quality silver products when used incorrectly, can cause argyria and other health problems.

Let’s look at the brass (or silver) facts for a minute.

It is true that positive silver ions can destroy harmful organisms like fungus and single celled bacteria. The silver ions absorb into these dangerous organisms and help disrupt cell function and neutralize the organism.

But what to they do in the face of healthy organisms?

What remains to be determined is the complete cycle of the silver ions and although they do appear to change the energy production of sick cells, it is important that we understand how they react with stable cells.

Some believe the silver directly changes the DNA of an organism which could make a case for the use of colloidal silver in disease research and prevention.

Science Digest published an article in 1978 which supported silver as a potent combatant of over 600 live tested organisms – even some of the most resistant strains.

More recent research from the labs at the University of California, Los Angeles verified these findings.

Many health food stores sell colloidal silver in vials and is used by many for a wide range of ailments from yeast infections, parasites, and viral infections.

Once available as over the counter products, colloidal silver products were taken off the market by the FDA and ruled ineffective and unsafe.

What remains to be seen are the long term effects of using silver routinely and in a daily supplemented fashion.

We know that toxic metals can wreak havoc on our cognitive and nervous systems, so the thought of using a metal to benefit health may be far fetched for some.

So why has there been so little research done on the powers of this potentially life saving tincture?

Some believe the FDA is purposely trying to stifle the use of colloidal silver as it would cost the government thousands in lost pharmaceutical revenue.
